My Journey so far as a Developer - Dev Retro 2022
A Reflection on my 2022 career progression
Introduction
I was reading articles this morning from Hashnode as my growing passion has been this past few weeks, in my bid to be a better Blog writer, I came across the campaign launched by Hashnode, called Dev Retro 2022.
It borders on sharing your accomplishments, challenges, and lessons learned so far in your journey as a developer. I saw this as an opportunity to pen down my experiences gathered in the world of tech.
My 2022 Experiences
The year is young and filled with promising desires to be better. New year resolutions are set alongside goals and all.
Just like everyone else, I was enthusiastic about what the year holds for me and was eager to find out by setting milestones and making sure I achieved them.
One of the goals I set for 2022 was delving a lot more into Open Source contributions in whatever capacity that I can be of use.
This prompted me to become involved in the Layer5 open-source community. I took up the role of making sure that newcomers felt at home enough to contribute to their quota. Although work and other activities made it less likely for me to be more involved, it's an experience I would love to go back to.
I got involved in community contributions since I believed in giving back to society. I volunteered during tech events and conferences, which mostly took place in Lagos, Nigeria, where I help with logistics, protocol, or any other roles that needed filling at the moment. I had the rare opportunity to gather swags as a result ๐.
Toward the end of 2022, I joined a technical writing community called Devwritesafrica in an attempt to revive my technical writing skills, which had been dormant for some time.
The community is aimed at encouraging writers in the tech space and dropping job information to boost confidence among writers.
Lessons Learned
Some lessons learned were:
Everyone faced challenges too in the tech world
No one knows it all
The power of communication
The power of networking
We need to share our knowledge and experience through writing no matter how little they might look to us. Someone out there will need it someday.
I would love to connect with you and I will appreciate a follow on Twitter.
Thanks for reading.
